About Sonic Speed Simulator:
What should have been a definitive release for the Mega Drive/Genesis classics. Unfortunately this was rushed out of the door and there’s glitches and bugs galore (weird physics, somehow being able to outrun the game to name a couple). As well as DLC that really should have been part of the base game. Also for some reason the opening pre-rendered cinematic was a stuttery mess and the menu system performed quite poorly also. Fortunately the games themselves plus the other pre-rendered animations run at a locked 60fps. The soundtrack issues are unfortunate, though I believe modders worked on that already. The asking price for this collection is pretty steep. I would recommend buying on sale if you’re going to (and maybe after a patch or two…) It’s a shame because there is actually some good here. Spin dash in Sonic 1 for instance. The new animations have heart to them. Widescreen support. Just a shame the bad outweighs the good right now. everyone loves the sonic classics, their masterpiece status is not to be disputed. but as usual with any recent sega product the modding community has to pick up the slack. once you install some mods to fix almost all of sega’s shortcomings, especially the irredeemable sins committed against s3k’s music, this becomes a decent experience. even still, it’s just not worth the price. i feel bad for the animators and the headcanon team whose amazing work was all for a half-baked letdown like this.
