About Troop Life:
I love this game. Its a wonderful combo of turn based strategy and tabletop war games. It is still in Alpha currently and has updates frequently released by the developer. It is more simple back and forth than most hex wargames but it is smooth and works. Stealth, fog of war and cover is key to doing well. Ambushes work as expected if you can wait to spring them. I played completely through on the British side which felt very balanced and challenging. Went back and tried playing through on the German side, but it does not feel balanced, really feels like the game was designed to be played as the British. Now we just need for the german playside to be balanced out, a mission editor be added and more units/countries. Mission Editor is now in the game. Updates are frequent and have added new missions… looking forward to seeing the future of this game. When playing as Axis it is not possible to achieve victory. Game is decidedly developed toward Allied Campaign, Axis ability to play was after thought. Allied armor and AT guns achieve first hit kills, despite having moved and rotated during their turn, while the opposite static Axis tanks miss. If a fired shot to an Allied tank by an Axis tank results in a hit, then that hit almost certainly does nothing to very little in the way of damage to the Allied tank and or killing the Allied tank crew. In short, it may take six to twelve shots to destroy Allied armor, while your own Axis armor is wiped off the map; the result is that you do not have enough tanks left to complete this simple arithmetic game. Furthermore, if you had the inclination to attempt you would fail prior to your “heroic last stand” due to the fact that after losing so much armor your morale points drop below the threshold and the game is automatically ended.
