About Wizard Tycoon:
At this point I just decided to take a break from it. It’s a very difficult game. I’ve slowly made it to the point where most bosses are not a challenge, except Master Sura. I’m tired. I’ll see if I try again later, but I just give up for now. Anyway, on to the review. Wizard of legend is a top down rogue like where you choose a set of spells, go through dungeon floors, fight bosses, rinse and repeat. Most of the game is very competently executed. Very interesting synergies, lots of spells to unlocks, artifacts (passive items) make you go OP, etc… It’s a game that I recommend for that reason : it is a very competently made indie game, and I don’t spit on indies, and there might be lots and lots of people who might immensely enjoy it. However…I don’t. From the very first run to the one I ended few minutes ago, I find Wizard of Legend to be an extremely stressful experience. Even on my best runs, there is always that chance that my entire efforts are wasted by one mistake, because if you are at the wrong spot in the wrong moment, you get damaged very hard. It goes far beyond punishing a mistake, it ruins entire runs. The main reason being there’s is no invincibility frames, or iframes for shorts. If 3 enemies surround you and hit fast enough that you’re stuck…you’re done. You learn it the hard way. You learn from it and play very defensively by kiting, avoiding frontal encounter, and sometime just letting summons/agents do the work for you. Boss design is infuriating. Each dungeon will add a layer of difficulty by making boss have slightly more move to their kits…which is fair. But it also make everyone slightly faster…and then faster. Having clean no damage fight is possible, but exhausting. Master Sura is just a no for me. I had several runs facing him at full health, only to get a death combo after missing a dodge, and I just don’t want to do it again at this point. This is the kind of game that enjoy punishing you. Laughing at your expense. If you’re that kind of masochistic player, go for it. Maybe there’s a cathartic feeling from beating such game. I just feel like I’m at a point of frustration that even if did beat the last boss, I’d just not feel any satisfaction. TL;DR There’s a lot to like in that package, but I just really really don’t vibe with how it design “difficulty”. If you have the wrong mindset for it, you’ll have a terrible time. (I know I did)
